Diablo 3: The transaction has timed out.

So is anyone surprised…..at all….that Blizzard has decided to push the real money auction house (RMAH) off twice now?   The first said “no we’ve decided not to have it at launch but soon after…” then not much longer after the fun filled “error 37″ launch they said “As we mentioned earlier this week, we’ve decided to move out our target launch for the real-money auction house beyond our original estimated date of May 22…Our new estimated date for the launch of this new system is Tuesday, May 29.”  So do you think it’ll even be ready by then?  Not I.

It seems that the game has hard enough time keeping the servers up and when those are up…the Auction house is down a third of the time.  For those other two out of three times, 75% of the time my bids simply timeout.   Then you go and try again and see someone else has bought it already.  Sometimes I can search items (Armor, Weapons, etc) but not commodities (Gems, Crafting Plans, Crafting Materials).  Whats the deal here?  This is Blizzard who has been running servers hosting at 10+ million subscribers.  Star Craft 2 matches are launched and completed 100′s of times a second.  Why is it we can’t keep this auction house server up and running smoothly?  This is the fastest selling game in PC history!  This is a AAA game company and saying “we under forcasted” is no longer an option when you are this big.

Its not just me either.  I did a search on the forums from the Diablo 3 site and I’m seeing returned search results from WoW forums (see screenshot below).  When I did navigate my way to the actual D3 forums to see what others are saying about the time outs I see tons of similar stories.  Sometimes even stories like

“I paid 500,000 for a new weapon and never received it…but my money is now gone.  Its been 24 hours and Blizzard told me no refunds….I have the transaction ID and everything saying it went through but they told me they won’t do anything about it”

Personally that scares the crap out of me when it comes to RMAH.  If we can’t even track digital gold how on earth does Blizzard expect me to pay 5 bucks for something I may or may not get.  There is no way I’m getting involved with that until this is long sorted out and servers are stable.

Have you had these issues with the AH?  Are you comfortable with putting real money on the table if the RMAH were to launch today?

I’ve learned that if I start to have a lag issue with the AH then I log off the server completely then relog and it clears up. I’ve made some money on their and purchased a few things, but other than lagging out a few times, I’ve not had any serious issues and again, it will be more of a problem once Real Money comes into play rather than fake gold.

I will say that with all this issues I am glad they are postponing the real cash transactions of the AH. I think they should wait at the least a month or maybe more to stabilize their servers and add a few helpful ways to sort and find out what items are listed for before you start listing them. I don’t want to put an item up only to find out that I’m 100,000 gold over what someone else has already listed it. The AH has issues but again, I’m glad they didn’t go first day with the real cash for items.

What bothers me more than anything else is that while I may not play Diablo 3, I can still be impacted by the game while I play WoW.

If the RMAH goes live and crashes the Battle.Net servers, WoW and SC2 are both nailed at the same time.

I mean, did Blizz really think this all the way through before they decided to implement it?

I personally believe Blizzard rushed this RMAH together, after all, all they can comprehend anymore is the bottom line; reaching for every last buck. If it screws up, it will screw up in their favor. Why would any sane person use this? I’ve noticed while playing the game, buying and selling at in-game merchants is idle time and gives you not enough time to think over which sword or mace is better. (Sigh) I miss Diablo 1.
