The VuhDo Solution That Evaded Me for Ages that I Think You Should Know About Too

by on May 17, 2010

I like long titles.

And I LOVE VuhDo. I used to use grid+clique, but frankly, I mapped so many buttons to it I couldn’t find one leftover to make the menu pop up so I could get out of fail pugs faster. It proved insurmountably annoying, and so I began the hunt for a better healing addon. And the one I found was the best healing addon. Love and hugs to Iza for building it. That little bugger does everything I could possibly want in an addon and a few thousand more things that I might want some other time.

However, I had a problem.

Sometimes it didn’t work in combat. At all. And I would be left fumbling around with the random buttons that were on my toolbars (most of my heals were not) trying to heal by click targeting, and watching the tank die horribly from my fail. I actually put more heals on my toolbars just for this contingency. It didn’t happen all the time, in fact, it was fairly infrequent, and it usually went away by itself after a while. But while it was happening, I couldn’t figure out how to fix it. Logging out didn’t help, nor did reloading my UI. Even a complete delete and reinstall (and lengthy repersonalization) of VuhDo didn’t do it.

Finally, it struck my shammy and my priest on the same day, and I snapped. I went to PlusHeal (where they’re smarter than me) as a last ditch effort to save VuhDo or find another healing addon. And I found the answer.

Go to spells. Go to Misc. Uncheck both trinkets and both instants. Solved!

Some trinkets have procs that can’t be triggered, and apparently when the trinket fails to trigger, VuhDo can’t follow through and cast your intended spell. So you get that frustrating realization that nothing is happening, nothing, no matter how many times or how frantically you click it and… omg the tank’s dead! *trails off into high pitched hysterical wails*

Turns out that Discerning Eye of the Beast is one of the trinkets that causes this effect.

So alt lovers using VuhDo, fear not. You can fix it. And it’s very easy. And you don’t have to be like me and bail out of three consecutive BRD runs because your healing mod isn’t working. You can still bail on BRD though if you want…. you know you want to.

I <3 VuhDo. Amateur and Professional healers alike ought to be using it.

Agreed, it's frustrating to me when I say something about VuhDo, and people say, "what?" and then I say "my healing addon" and they say, "oh, Healbot."

I just gave up, and now refer to my "healbot" in pugs. It saves time. /facepalm

Haha oh man, YES. This plagued my existence for weeks when I first started using it. I thought it was just hard-coded into one of my macros to blow trinkets whenever they were up so I was like okay, whatever…only later did I realize it was a default Vuhdo option!

It took me SO long to find the answer, I thought putting it up somewhere might help other people realize wtf was going on and how to stop it… before the tank died.

I love Vuhdo! It came with me all the way to 80. I never had this problem though – the problem where it wouldn’t let me heal after having tried to pop a trinket? I did know that it just goes ahead and pops my trinkets, which is… OK, it tends to mean I’m at least using them all of the time, now that I’m not using Discerning Eye of the Beast x2. I’m glad you were able to solve the issue though!

If it tries to pop the trinket and can't (like eye of the beast has two equip abilities and no use ability) it won't heal at all! It's terrifying.

I <3 VuhDo too. I have it set to randomly fire my trinkets on some characters where I never remember to use them, but never my Resto druid or mage. Mage trinkets are in the "Arcane Cooldown Blow Everything" macro and Resto trinkets were (before I replaced them with "equip" procs) in the "NS + HT" macro.

My VuhDo error is that every now and then when setting it up on a character I forget to set left mouse click to "Select" instead of whatever spell VuhDo wants it to be. And then go "Ahhhh why can't I select anyone with Vuhdo ahhhhh" for a while.

I need that macro, Ana… could you perhaps show me how you have it set up? My CDs blow automatically at stupid times.

First make sure VuhDo won’t trigger your trinkets

Arcane Mage Win Button (Throw at start of boss fights. Do huge amounts of damage right off. AND you don’t die. Wow!). Give it a big skull icon and a name like DIEDIEDIENOW or OVER9000 or something

/cast Icy Veins
/cast Arcane Power
/use 13
/use 14
/cast Mirror Image

Notes: First off, since your IV and AP cooldowns are slightly different, and your trinkets (that’s the /use 13 and /use 14 lines) are probably different again, and so is MI, you’ll waste dps versus manually managing things. Maybe. I’m no theorycrafter.

This is from memory since the servers are still down right now but I think it’s right.

The key with this is you trigger all your “Give me MOAR POWERRRRRR!!!” cds at once AND you throw Mirror Image, which means you can unload on your targets without pulling off the tank. Usually. I use this up front on long fights because in raids I’ll get it up again before the encounter is done.

Note you have to have your CDs all back before firing this off again or you’ll blow the ones that are up without stacking…

You can do all those things before Mirror Image because that’s the only one that’s on the GCD.

I use this, and I sometimes manually manage CDs, but this is way better for my dps because I’m a bad mage and often forget to use CDs properly… sigh… I’m a much better resto druid than arcane mage, but meh.

SWEET! I'm a way better holy pally than an arcane mage, and I'm making this macro NAOW!

Thank you very much!

Vid,

Out of curiosity, did you ever use Healbot? I ask because I use Healbot, but I've heard Grid/Clique or VuhDo is better, and I like the way they look a bit better. However, I'm not very good at figuring out addons. I'd like to give one or the other a try, but I'm terrified of making the change. Any advice? Should I just stick with Healbot, since it's so easy to use?

Many thanks,
Ama

I never have used healbot, sorry. :( I've heard it's very easy right out of the box, but aside from the problem mentioned above, I've never had any trouble stetting up vuhdo. I found it very intuitive.

I've used HB but not for a loooooong time. I would encourage you to try what others are using out there to see if you can find a better config. After Rhii posted this, I finally gave Vuhdo a try and by doing so realized I no longer needed grid/clique. It could also replace some of my party frames as well as has a nice rebuff reminder.

I tend to test out mods I've tried before every few months as well to see if they've gotten to a point where I want to use them. I've tried Bagnon, Ark Inventory, and Combuctor like 2-3x now but keep going back to Tbag for my bag mod. But it doesn't mean one of them might be better in future.

Haha, I love Combuctor and despise Bagnon. What's Tbag have that would make me want to switch?
