My Cataclysm Wish List: Bat Mounts

I tried in past to do a series on “What Blizzard Should Do” but after a few posts it still felt clunky and didn’t turn quite into the series I wanted.  The new and improved version is “My Cataclysm Wish List” which is ….well lets face it, going to be the exact same thing.  This series is a bunch of ideas I jot down that I think have a more then deserving place in the game by now.   Things we should have had a long time ago or perhaps just seem like a simple tweak to today’s version of World of Warcraft.  Who knows?  Perhaps one of these will ultimately make it into the game and I get to say “I Called That!”

First post is Bat Mounts.  With the launch of The Burning Crusade, Blizzard gave Horde Wyverns and Alliance had Gryphons.  Later the Cenarion War Hippogryph was added and later still Blizzard has added several flavors of Dragonhawk mounts.  So up until now (Patch 3.3)…every flavor of flight path mount is represented by a player controlled model in some way.  Why not add in Bat mounts?   At first my wife Adreanna commented that there is no way for a bat to walk on the ground like other mounts…its more of a glider.  That kind of made sense but Dragonhawks don’t walk and they are in the game….maybe Blizzard just hasn’t figured out a way to make the Bat model hover realistically.  If nothing else perhaps they could animate it like a Protodrake.  Those mounts have a bat like wingspan and only hind legs.  But when it comes down to “getting animations right”, Blizzard isn’t one to rush something out (*cough* dance studios *cough*) so I doubt something like this is going to be right around the corner.  Still they should have someone work on this because come on, who wouldn’t want to be a Bat Rider?
