Quick One

by on November 10, 2009

Just a quick one, I’m sure the people that really know what’s going on will be all over this in a few hours like small children on a bowl of M&Ms, but the most recent PTR patch notes include this nugget:

Lay on Hands: This ability will place Forbearance on the paladin if used on his or herself. It will not place Forbearance on others.

It’s fair, I think, though still a “band-aid” fix. It balances the concerns that led to the LOH nerf in the first place with the very legitimate complaints that paladins had about it. And it goes a long way to restoring healer-tank synergy between holy and prot pallies. This is a change I can live with.

I'm still not a fan of this "fix". The only reason it was brought up in the first place was because of the imbalance of LoH and Bubble in PvP. That problem could easily be fixed by simply making LoH not work in PvP like they do other spells.

This fix screws pally tanks in PvE that use Divine Protection to cut down the damage they take. The tank using an ability to lessen his damage causes his healer's strongest heal (if they're a pally) to not function. One player's actions removes another player's option because of this fix, and that doesn't fly.

I'll give any change a while to be tried and tested to see if it can be dealt with, but right now I don't feel that it solves the actual problem.

It shouldn't apply in the tank/healer scenario anymore, with LOH only causing forbearance when cast on oneself. *thinks*

Unless forbearance still –prevents– a healer from casting their LOH on a target with forbearance. Eww. I hope that isn't what is meant here. If it means I can't bubble myself after using LOH on me, so be it, if I have to use LOH and bubble in the same fight something worse is wrong than forbearance. If it means I can't use LOH on the tank because s/he's recently used Divine Protection… that's nasty.

So far, I'm going to be optimistic and read it as forbearance only applies to LOH in any sense when the paladin casts on themself. Otherwise, the change doesn't fix anything.

Maybe I need to go back and edit my quickie post… thus defeating the purpose. :P
