That’s what’s in store for the PTR 3.0.8 patch according to MMO Champions take on the next set of PTR updates. I’ve looked at the official PTR release notes and it doesn’t say anything about it yet…wouldn’t exactly say this is a buff but still will be fun to think you can make a heroic dive off of your flying mount and save your buddy from certain doom. This might make the price spike a tad (not much) on Glyph of Slow Fall. Personally I think that’s a mighty fine minor glyph as is.
UPDATE:
PTR notes now include the slowfall update so its official. As official as the PTR is I suppose.

this is the first i've heard of this. looks like i better start stocking up on light feathers!
isheepthings December 11, 2008 at 3:46 am
On my server I couldn't sell a stack of feathers for the life of me a few weeks ago…I ended up just vendoring them. I blame Glyph of Slow Fall and Glyph of Levitate for this. And with Quiver of a Thousand Feathers (need 99 Light Feather to craft) being replaced by Nerubian Reinforced Quiver …I think I'll still be selling my feathers to a vendor.

With this being the case I think they should atleast stimulate the Feather Economy (never thought i'd say those words together) by requiring something like 99 Feathers for creating the Slow Fall and Levitate Glyphs.

hmm, good point. i can't find that glyph on my server, so i go through feathers like crazy. i guess it's cheap to find out if they sell well, though.
Pyrotekk December 17, 2008 at 7:55 am
lol, where can i get these feathers other than AH?
isheepthings December 17, 2008 at 8:25 am
they drop off a lot of mobs (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=17056)but i seem to naturally pick up enough to keep my stockpiles filled (even before the glyph). If you are going to farm them you can probably blast through some of the < level 20 mobs in just a few mins and come up with plenty to keep you floating for awhile. I don' t know about your use of slow fall but I seem to only cast it maybe 2-3 times a week. Usually I blink to the ground or iceblock if I'm falling a great distance.

Thanks to the Glyph of Slow Fall and the lack of flying mount until lvl 77 I have coined the term "Ghetto Flyer" for my Slow Fall spell. You'd be amazed how handy it has been at getting me around Northend in quickly with lots of high places to fall from! Now the Mage Taxi just offered another service!
Barix December 11, 2008 at 5:01 am
I just hope this ability doesn't turn into another instance/raid responsibility. I can already picture some moron who can't be bothered to, say, watch for spikes on Anub'arak, blaming the mage for not saving him from fatal falling damage.
isheepthings December 11, 2008 at 5:30 am
While I doubt Blizzard would build an encounter where this is extremely useful…I will shed tears if they make Mage gems tradeable like healthstones…
Rhii December 11, 2008 at 8:40 am
I already can't get my greedy little hands on a glyph of slow fall for love or money. I'm too much of a miser to be willing to dish out the price they're going for on the auction house. Looks like I'm gonna be stockpiling feathers for a little bit longer.

It did seem kind of odd that water walking could be cast onto anyone yet levitate and the rest were still self-cast.
As for the mana gem comment: That would mean every raid would require at least 1 mage, per encounter. As we know Blizzard are trying to stop class requirements (which is near-impossible to accomplish). So I don't see that ever occuring and if it did It'll be Crystal Water all over again.
isheepthings December 15, 2008 at 8:28 am
yeah there would be an uproar if they made them tradeable…for the very reasons you pointed out. stepping away from class requirements for raiding, it'd make us even more gimmicky, they'd have to create a "soul well" type interface for us to pass out to the whole raid…and they act like potions do they not? few classes would give up that cool down timer for a mana gem.
Grimba December 16, 2008 at 10:02 am
What do you mean by "and they act like potions do they not?".
They share a cooldown with Healthstones, but not potions as they are on seperate cooldowns (if that's what you mean).
isheepthings December 16, 2008 at 3:27 am
100% correct…i counterspelled myself. what i meant to say was healthstones share the cooldown. what i was getting at is i rarely use my mana gems because I'd rather have that healthstone in my back pocket for when the healers eyes are on the tank and not me.
Grimba December 17, 2008 at 9:08 am
Ahh okay that makes more sense then. I cannot remember the last time I even clicked on a Soulwell to be honest, I trust in my healers enough to get on with DPS'ing in 9/10 cases. An exception to this would be fights like Loatheb, where healing is a key factor to the fight.
On another note one of my shamans and I quote said: "I cannot wait to ask for Slow Fall every 10 minutes, it'll make up for the times you asked for Waterwalking".

Just to add an idea of mine about conjuring items wear you could target a party member then click conjure(water/food), and it would be placed in the targets inventory, it would save more time than trading.
isheepthings December 17, 2008 at 8:20 am
yep but for every good idea there is a bad use for it…imagine greifing players by filling up their inventory with Rank 1 water.
Pyrotekk December 18, 2008 at 7:58 am
Ya that would be a problem, but if it was limited to party members then they would probably be aware of it. and maybe they could add a popup saying "*your mage here* is about to place conjured water/food in your inventory" Accept/Decline.
