I Brake for Khadgar’s Whisker

If I have one great love in WoW, it’s the Auction House.  In WoW I can be the miser I never manage to be in real life. It’s like the way I used to hoard up points in Super Mario Brothers by breaking every reachable brick, except now I’m watching the gold pile up. I hate to spend it, because that means I’ll have less, and that means I’m just retreading already covered ground in the ongoing quest to be RICH.

Now, Rhii is not my first incarnation in WoW. She’s my first Ally main, and the first character I’ve leveled consistently past level 20. But I’ve got a host of alts on different servers where I experimented with different classes, professions, and play styles (do I really want to be PvP? How would I look with a sword or a large venomous spider?). But what I learned early with those characters is that getting a few gold in the bank at an early stage makes it much easier to make money later on. Trying desperately to train your skills every time you reach that next even numbered level when you’ve been spending all the mats you gather on your next level of tailoring, enchanting, or jewelcrafting is just an exhaustion I don’t want to face. When I level, I just wanna breeze into the Exodar, buy my skills, and waltz back out. Without having to mess around with gathering a few more copper here and there just to make the whole thing work out mathematically.

And so when Rhii was born (a bouncing bundle of mana) I immediately decided to level a gathering profession with her first for the sole purpose of flooding the auction house with lucrative items, and level a crafting profession more slowly for enjoyment. It was the best decision I’ve ever made for my virtual wallet.  I’ve just hit level 37, I have a –probably unhealthy– obsession with herbs, and I have a constant cashflow that makes it easy to spend a few gold a day levelling my second profession (jewelcrafting) without making my own life so difficult that I can’t afford to train skills or keep myself in runes of teleportation.

So I’m sitting pretty comfortable on my stack of gold (think Scrooge McDuck with horns) waiting for WOTLK to launch in three days, and wondering what sort of delightful things I’ll find to spend it on, whether it’s new gear, a JC blitz, reorganizing my talents, achievement hunting, or just helping out with my guild’s bank. And all the while I know I probably won’t spend it on anything at all… after all, I just like gold for gold’s sake.

LOL Solid… my pile of gold is not that big.

It's really not that big by any standards, I just made it as big as I could as fast as I could and I plan to continue doing that… well, forever.
