Time for the next segment of my Death Knight Gear Guide. By now you should have a good portion of the Hellfire Peninsula quests completed and perhaps even a portion Zangarmarsh. By now you should have found replacements for your Chest, Cloak, Trinket, Feet, Shoulders, a Ring, and maybe even your Hands. That’s quite a lot of upgrades in just 2 levels. Here in the 60 to 61 range for Death Knight gear we’re going to see a lot of items that came from the Hellfire Citadel Instances.
-Level 60-
Weapons – Level 60 starts bringing on some new weapons for your Death Knight. If you’ve done a lot of reputation quest work then you might just be honored with Thrallmar or Honor Hold. If this is the case and you’d like to branch out into duel wielding stop by and pick up a pair of Grunt’s Waraxe or Footman’s Longswords. These sell for close to 35g a piece so make sure you’ve got some cash in your pocket. If you do go this route and are Unholy specced I suggest making sure you put some points into Blood-caked Blade to take full advantage of swinging with both hands. If you’ve done enough Instancing to get honored reputation you may have had a chance to pick up a Hellreaver from the end boss of ramparts. If you are really lucky you may have seen a Blade of Misfortune drop while in the instance. If not you might be able to pick on up at the auction house. I just bought mine for almost 350g. This is well worth the cost because it will last you as a 2H weapon until level 67.
Hands – Defender’s Gauntlets can be picked up by Alliance Only after a short 2 Man quest called The Rock Flayer Matriarch. This is the same way horde got their gloves at 59. For some reason I suppose Blizzard thinks Alliance are going to need an extra level to tackle this boss.
Feet – Boots of the Decimator are a nice upgrade if you can find them on the auction house. They usually sell for around 40g.
Waist – Our first upgrade for the waist can be found in Zangarmarsh as Bog Walker’s Belt for Horde and Vindicator’s Cinch for Alliance both are an easy quest you can solo.
Amulets – Our first amulet upgrade comes from either a lucky roll off Omor the Unscarred in Hellfire Ramparts for the Garrote-String Necklace or you can pick up the Broken Choker or Sedai’s Necklace for doing the Horde and Alliance quests Source of the Corruption and Makuru’s Vengance respectively.
Rings – Amaan’s Signet is a reward from the alliance only quest Cleansing the Waters
-Level 61-
Weapons – If you haven’t found enough quests or instancing to get the honored reputation items, you might just find a blacksmith friend that can craft you a couple of Fel Iron Hatchets. There is also a world drop 1h mace called Fist of Reckoning but its not a huge upgrade unless you have another good 1h item. Dreadtusk’s Fury is likely to be most players first upgrade from the starting Death Knight Weapons. And finally if you’ve instanced your way into the Blood Furnace you may have picked up a Warsong Howling Axe from Keli’dan the Breaker.
Chest – The Breastplate of Blade Turning becomes available at level 61 but is a world drop and not nearly as good as the Battlemaster’s Breastplate you should have picked up from last guide.
Hands – Ironblade Gauntlets are the best we’ve seen so far for this slot and you can get them off of the instance boss The Maker in Blood Furnace. These even have gem slots so the could last you quite a while depending on what you put into them. They might be the last outland Hands you pick up.
Amulets – Pendant of Battle-Lust is another item that comes from The Maker so you might get those if you don’t see the gloves drop.
Ok so there is what we have for the level 60 to 61 range in Death Knight Gear. There’s plenty of Instancing to run but never fear because there will probably be more replacements in just a few levels anyway! See you next time!

Wow, this really helped. Thanks.
Thank you! I'm a new Frost Death Knight trying to get some Tank gear together and this was very helpful, although I'm still not sure whether I should be trying for Hellreaver with its +Crit versus Warsong Howling Axe and it's HUGE +Stamina. (Of course neither of them have dropped for me yet, either.)
Can some one help me if i go back or try to go to another guide it says access forbidden
Is it still doing that? I’ve clicked around on a few other guide links and they seemed to work OK.
