PVE2PVPKTNXBYE

Fresh off the WoW Twitter News feed! (aka the wow twitters I follow)

Blizzard has finally announced that almost after four years of Game time, and 2 years of paid character transfer service, that they will finally allow PvE to PvP transfers with the same standard rules that apply to all character transfers.  Originally this was not allowed due to players on PvE servers (you know, the carebare ones) having an easier time leveling with out having to suffer as many corpse runs.

It has never been a technical issue.  It’s always been this way because of the ease of leveling on PvE.  That’s not to say this hasn’t happened in the past.  I can recall listening on a WoW podcast, a host mentioning he made a PvE-PvP transfer happen by pulling some strings and throwing his name around so it wasn’t unheard of.  And with all the new speedy leveling that is going on, it shouldn’t make a big difference as it did “back in the day”.

I myself have always played on PvP servers and have never leveled past 10 on a PvE server.  Other then Kel’thuzad being my home turf, I just feel at this point in the game I’d be cheating myself by simply avoiding “conflict” in the World of WARcraft.  To me the PvE server just screams “NOT IN THE FACE! NOT IN THE FACE!”  Even though PvP servers can be frustrating, I’m staying put….can’t wait to see the QQ on this.

This…along with Account bound items…Blizzard is just tearing all the walls down…there is no spoon will be their new slogan.

    Hey Aurdon :)

    Just a small note:
“hat’s not to say this hasn’t happened in the past. I can recall listening on a WoW podcast, a host mentioning he made a PvP-PvE transfer happen by pulling some strings and throwing his name around so it wasn’t unheard of.”

PvP to PvE transfers have always been possible, it’s just the other way around that hasn’t. So either you just weren’t clear enough in your formulating the sentence or you thought about it the wrong way.

    Hope this help!

    Regards
    Aendi

P.s. Love the blog, keep it up! :D

I think it depends on your server. My old (PvP) server, Shadowmoon, had gangs of stealthed Horde druids and rogues ACTIVELY preventing Alliance from completing quests on the Isle of Quel’Danas… so then some Alliance tried to gank back, and the entire place became a war-zone and all the completion quests were ignored. Same thing if you took one step out of Honor Hold or Shattrath and couldn’t fly. It was ridiculous. I put up with it for two years because, like you, I had never NOT been on a PvP server… but my recent move to Kael’thas (PvE) in April was the best money I’ve ever spent and I’ll never go back to PvP servers. ^_^

@Aendi yep you were correct…got my P’s and E’s switched. Fixed. And thanks for commenting! Glad you enjoy reading.

@Doodle well I’m also 4 years invested into guilds/friends on my server too so that makes a difference. In on PTR I NEVER choose PvP because I’m there to check out the new skills and abilities but not how those skills work on other players. I’d much rather be left alone in that circumstance. I can recall talking in my guild forum before WoW came out (we came from another game) how we decided to make PvP our official server because it was more Warcrafty.

I actually leveled two toons to 60 on a pvp server, Sargeras, way back pre-BC. I rolled there originally because RL friends played there and they were the original reason I started playing. When my hubby started playing, we selected a realm together and picked an PvE-RP realm, Blackwater Raiders, where I’ve been for the past two years. I actually transferred my toons from Sargeras to BWR as soon as realm transfers opened. So, I’ve played on both and I have to say, I really prefer the PvE servers. I’m not the worlds best PvPer and getting ganked every five seconds was frustrating and disrupted my game play. I suppose I shouldn’t have rolled there to begin with, lol, stupid RL friends. That said, I think ALL realms should be PvP realms, even though it’s not my preference. The game is, as you said, WARcraft and the storyline is that of an ongoing war. So, PvE realms sort of defy that. All that said, I’m really quite glad Blizzard is more reasonable than I am. ;)

@Mae great commentary. Couldn’t have said it better. All servers “should” be PvP but in reality, thats not how all players play Blizzard games. Plenty of WC3 or SC players (myself included) would never dare enter a Bnet game (PvP) and are happy with just playing the campaigns (PvE). I’m would never call any PvE player a noob or say that they are worse gamers…many are probably far better then I at the game. And if I were to start over again on a new server, I’d likely pick PvE (maybe RP) to simply minimize any frustrations I might have.

Aurdon, thanks. One thing, if you ever do reroll on a PvE server, because you’re attempting to minimize the frustration, I wouldn’t suggest an RP realm. There are a whole lot of other problems with RP realms, including very slow progression into endgame because everyone, or a hell of a lot, are focused on RP and bring a more fulfilling RP experience to the game. Nothing wrong with it, but it can be just as frustrating as many other problems. The difference is, if you’re ganked you can just run back to your body and move on (unless your being camped, ugh!), on an RP server with stagnant progression, you can’t just move on. There’s one guild Ally side on my server that has seen any sort of progression into Sunwell, and they’ve not downed anything yet… oh and their Illidan kill was a joint effort between them and another guild. We pale in comparison to other servers for endgame, it’s pitiful… oh and you should see Goldshire, UGH! No.

If I could do it again, I wouldn’t roll on a RP server. Just thought I’d throw that out there.

@Mae ha..good points. Never considered the end game progression of an RP server. Doesn’t matter much though, rerolling on an PvE (RP or not) would be more focused on casual play. I’d still raid on my main PvP server.
