Some of you who have been in the game since last transition to TBC might remember the The Dark Portal Opens event in patch 2.0.3.
Azeroth is under attack! Horrific creatures are swarming from a suddenly active Dark Portal and have rampaged into the Blasted Lands. Defenders from Nethergarde Keep have scrambled to meet the enemy head-on. However, even with the assistance of reinforcements from the ever-vigilant Argent Dawn, the forces of Azeroth need your help! Not much is known of the invasion at this early stage, but early reports from the battlefront describe wave after wave of demonic attackers charging from the Dark Portal. It is also reported that Lord Kazzak was seen departing through the Dark Portal. In his stead he has left his minion, Highlord Kruul, to sow fear and confusion among the defenders. Accompanied by a host of infernals, Kruul has been seen near a number of major cities in Azeroth, along with the following outdoor areas:
Not even the elite forces of the Argent Dawn have dared attack Kruul directly. Only a large and well-coordinated group of adventurers might stand a chance of defeating him.

Well I think everyone can probably say it’s a safe bet that we’ll be seeing something like that before WotLK as well. Signs are already starting to pop up.

I even have heard rumors that some of the Major Cities will be under siege from the scourage, thus prompting the assult on Northrend. No source for those however…just rumors.

I’m looking forward to seeing what sort of in game event they have planned. I know way back when Naxx was released pre-BC they had an IG event and a lot of people on my server had no idea what was happening. The Ziggurats started appearing above major cities and everyone was perplexed. lol. I think, since then, Blizz has generally gotten better at putting together IG events, I mean, look at the event for the opening of AQ, that was epic!

@Mae thats actually how this post started…the world event that I participated in the most was The Scourage Invasion but then I realized that The dark portal opens would be a bit more on topic of expansions.
That’s awesome!! I actually thought the Scourge Invasion event was a little awkward, but then, I wasn’t terribly in touch with the game back then. Now that I’ve been playing longer and can appreciate those events, I think it would be much better. I always manage to somehow miss IG events. I missed the Dark Portal Event and have missed the opening of AQ on two different servers now. I think I’m just doomed to miss them all!! Hopefully, if something’s planned, I’ll actually be in game and get to take part.

@Mae yep I missed opening of the portal and gates as well! I helped in the gathering of materials in AQ40 but too many people crashed the server and I was busy during the opening event. I also straight up missed the opening of the portal…wish i hadn’t cause I’d wear that tabard you got as a reward.

There was a tabard for the opening of the Dark Portal? That’s something I didn’t know and now I wish that I hadn’t missed it either! I’m going to be keeping my eyes peeled for the event for Wrath of the Lich King!!

Yep, you got Tabard of the Protector for doing the quest. All you had to do was kill 6 mobs
. Sadly I never logged during this time and I’m now kicking myself for it. The tabard will cast a “do nothing” effect that looks like a Holy Nova when you right click on it. Your character will also /flex.
