Nothing quite like being irked in WoW to get you to post on the blog.
Euripedes made a very humorous post about enjoying PvP this morning. It’s a good read but it got me thinking. Two people engage in mortal combat on the field of battle in War Song Gulch. Is that PvP?
Yes.
Three people are swinging axes and casting spells at a beaten and bruised fighter in Arathi Basin. Is that PvP?
Yes.
Ten people round the corner and steamroll what was once a aspiring solder in Alterac Valley. Is that PvP?
Yep. It’s a battle ground. What do you expect?
Three 70′s chase down a 66 in a contested zone atempting to quest and exploiting NPC agro to get away with it. Is that PvP?
According to Blizzard it is. I am on a PvP server after all.
Now here is where you say QQ and move along but seriously… What happened here? Why do we find it so rewarding to inconvenience another player? I always let it get to me and think “Just wait. I’m going to log onto one of my 70′s and go pwn some people 20 levels below me and then I’ll feel right again.”
But I can never do it.
Not immediatly after I get ganked, not days later. When I’m out and about on my “geared” characters, I can never pick “that” fight. Even if I know its a guaranteed win. I could just hit the 4 key and they’d be blasted to oblivion.
I still can’t do it.
Oh sure I’ve done it in the past but I never get a thrill out of it. I never have camped a corpse that didn’t start something. I’ve have always had something better to do then to “hang out” and rack up some easy kills. What enjoyment do people get out of this?
Should players be rewareded (honor or otherwise) for a guaranteed win?
Blizzard doesn’t think so. Thats why they cracked don’t on win traiding in arenas. But yet they still gave up on the “dishonor” system and haven’t looked back since. PvPing in neutral towns is forbidden. Back in the day’s of AQ, if you took a swing at a player in Cenarion Hold you were going down. Those guards were nothing to scoff at. They’d down you in 1-2 hits. So why is it you get a NPC guard on you today will hit for 5% of your life and you can simply outrun/vanish/feign death or simply kill them and move on? What’s the deal here? PvP server or not, Blizzard needs to restore some of the capitol punishments from past when it comes to fighting in places where it isn’t allowed. This hand slap business needs to stop.
…ok I think they’ve stopped camping me. Time to go back to questing.

I found myself calling off a few alliance the other day in HFP. We were doing the daily, when a couple of < 70′s horde appeared. They got taken out by the alliance that were near me.. and I wondered, what for?
So I told them all to leave them alone, if anything to ensure there was just one avenue left – to the one tower we couldn’t take because it was neutral.
Unfortunately when one of the Horde rez’d he went straight for one of the alliance…
But yeah, I play on a PvE server, and I find senseless ganking of toons and npcs, camping etc painful and unnecessary

That kind of lunacy always irked me as well. Actually it is the main reason I moved from my first (pvp) server to a pve server.

I usually keep my well geared 70 main in the zone my alt is in. I know the rules of engagement. Someone at my level beats me in PVP, I’ll find a new place to quest. A 70 comes in and ganks me or 3 or 4 of the opposing faction gank me and IT’S HAMMER TIME!!
They have already shown they don’t care about a fair fight. I don’t intend to give them one.

Yeah I knew what I was getting into when I joined PvP server and I don’t think I could ever bring myself to play on a PvE for very long. I do like the idea of attacks being open to happening whenever. I just wish they would fight with honor.
I just don’t see why its so compelling to start a fight you know your going to win. There is no honor in that.
And don’t say its “Your Horde and I’m Alliance…we’re supposed to be mortal enemies” cause that doesn’t fly. Besides the fact Warcraft Lore has shown factions can overcome differences and work together, there are other factions that you could consider mortal enemies. You could be killing 1000′s of Twilight Avengers who are working to revive an Old God and destroy all of Azeroth.
But no…they don’t kill NPCs….its not an inconvenience for a NPC to respawn. They like to kill players for the only reason of it makes them feel superior.
…pathetic
Pretend you’re fighting an enemy level 70 mage, and along comes an enemy level 63 paladin. Now ask yourself, what proportion of those level 63 holy paladins will interfere in your perfectly fair fight and drop a nice 5k heal on the enemy mage? I would wager that well over half would. Hell, what would you do if you were the 63 paladin in that situation?
Point being, if a lowbie probably wouldn’t think twice about interfering with a fair fight, what’s wrong with stomping him preemptively?
@Quan yes I can see the logic in that. I suppose the best coarse of action in a PvP server is always strike first. I think this post might have spawned from my deep wishing that Blizzard would bring back some impossibly accurate form of “disshonor” points.
