Progression doesn’t have to be linear

35 Yards Out posted today about The Demise of Tier 5 Content. The post was all about how the 2.4 patch caused guilds to give up on SSC/TK end bosses and move on to BT/Hijal “thus messing up the delicate balance of progression”.

Well I think the original reason for the attunement lift was that there “was no progression”. We’ve all heard the blizzard comment that “only 3% of players even made it into BT.” I for one am glad they did. My guild was in the SSC/TK tiers and sometimes its just nice to see new content and take a break from the raiding road blocks.

I think we were 4/5 Hijal and 3/9 BT before we finally dropped Kael. Which is nice because we didn’t just give up on him. There is still some good loot in those instances for those who are in T6 content now.

I see it as widening the content so there isn’t so much pressure and buildup in raiding the T5. If we kept at it, we would have probably lost heart and saw a dip in raid attendance. I’ve been in 2 guilds that ended that way (too casual to progress so eventually people move on and set the “casual guild progression” back a couple months). Instead they lifted these artificial barriers (I say artificial because you don’t have to be a guild decked in T5 to survive first few bosses in BT/Hijal) and allowed raiders to stretch their legs and get some new loot.

All that being said I do think Blizzard is making things easier to get for the causal player. I’m glad they are too. The “Elite” raiders got their prize months ago and still do today in Sunwell so any complaining that the casual player shouldn’t get good raiding gear is pretty moot in my book. How often do you hear people complaining about how Blizzard lifted the Kara attunement?

Awww man! Now everybody will have T4!….QQ

My advice for 35yards would be to always raid like your in a Endgame raid. You are never “stuck” in low gear doing low raids unless you allow yourself to be. If you want to be in a big raiding guild, apply. Get turned down several times. Inbetween you’ll find a guild that will take you in and you’ll get to see more content. Find a raiding guild that matches your gear level and play style and you’ll be glad you did.

I’m not exactly in low gear doing low raids. I’m more in T5-quality gear in low raids, which is why I made that rant. I suppose maybe it is time for me to find a new guild. The only thing holding me back is that the friends who took me into WoW are in the guild. They don’t really raid, while I’m kinda opposite and wanting to see content. That’s really my inner conflict of interest. =/

Thanks for your comments on this.

I see what you mean. My reply was going to be pretty long winded so I just turned it into another post :)

Great topic and thanks for sharing!

In regards to your friends, you’ll just have to decide how to enjoy raiding (probably with a new guild) and still spending time with them (questing, PvP). What do you do most with your friends? Do you have to be in the same guild to do that? Since they aren’t really into raiding then I don’t see why its really necessary for you to share the same guild name.

Content progression is a really interesting thing, at least at the moment guilds are on basically all stages of raiding, except late stage tier 5 on my server. Guilds that can reach this stage basically jump to t6 and don’t come back. I wondered if there was perhaps something that could be done to really make the tiers viable even beyond their expected life of progression, as it seems a shame to effectively miss out on a third of the end game.

Anyway, I wrote a couple of posts on it :P you guys are inspiring me to write.
