My main right now is of course Aurdon my Mage. I also have a 70 holy Paladin and a mid 60′s Enhancement Shaman. With all the new news of Death Knights coming out I have to question who will receive the most attention once WotLK launches. I recall I was faced with the same questions when I heard horde would receive paladins in The Burning Crusade. Now there is a new class for my faction to harness the power of. Will I be one to step up and assume that role for the guild? Or will I rush forward into the new content with my current raider. Keep in mind that since you start out at level 55…you still will have to grind/power level through 13-15 levels before you reach all this wonderful new content that Wrath of the Lich King is all about.
What do you think you’ll do?

I think I will keep my shaman for a while. I am not all in a hurry to level up a Death Knight once its available, simply because EVERYONE ELSE WILL!
Well I think the fact that you have to start back at 55 and basically blitz through Outland content will deter enough people to make it worth while. I’m honestly thinking about making it my main because you know Blizzard will be building in specific rolls for this new Magic Tank (and for those brief moments of over-powered-ness that comes with massive changes to the game:)).
I think the real draw to me leveling a death knight would be to be “that guy” for the guild. I’ve always wanted to be the #1 {insert class here} for the guild’s raiding purposes.
I can’t imagine NOT continuing my hunter, at least, and probably my holy priest. The DK really doesn’t appeal to my playstyle, but who knows? I do tend to prefer DPS classes though.
Starting WotLK as a DK has interested me, but I feel like I will be missing out on quite a bit of the fun that will be Northrend as soon as it hits. I think I’ll start a DK just to experience the class, but level it as an “alt”. One of my pre-WotLK goals is to get a healer on my 2nd account to 55 to level up alongside my DK via dual-boxing.
My main will continue to be my Paladin. For the Horde!
True, but it is also the fact that you also start at level 55 is a bonus! No more 1-80 grind.
I would gladly pay a few extra dollars every few months so I could start any character at a certain level as long as:
1) I got a character to the max limit
2) My account is such and such months old.
@Bibble I’m wondering if that will be my thoughts that win out in the end as well…experience 70-80 asap with a DK alt or…really focus on being one of the first DK’s for the guild. No way would I beat out the college kids in grinding a DK to 80 on my server…so I’ll have to settle for “one of the first” in the guild.
@Aylii Yes I definitely approve of any shortcuts they give us to avoid a silly grind. (even the idea of sharing reputation grinds I’ve heard tossed around sounds great!). And both your validations for being able to “buy” a higher lvl character sound like great ideas too. I think that Blizzard is more likely to make it easier to get a high level rather then just implementing a purchase system for those who met some criteria.
I first heard this idea discussed on the Legendary Thread podcast (back in the days of the Scarab Lord) and I would like to see it implemented someday. You might have caught on wowinsider a while back that someone data mined a spell that was something along the lines of “Grant friend lvl up” and it was thought to be relating to giving your 10-day free trial period friend a instant lvl 70 to play along side you. With that info I would say its definitely within the realm of possibilities that one day Blizzard will simply snap their fingers and allow high-lvl characters under certain conditions.
I will probably work on all of my toons.. My druid might lag behind, but not by much.. I have a feeling all other work in the guild will be put on hold (like it was for BC) to level everyone. Everyone has quite a few alts now and I’m sure they want to level them (esp for the professions…).. I love my hunter but he will probably be leveled solo since it is pretty easy to do. My priest will be sucked into instances.. I’m sure of it.. And my druid might languish a little, but she will be there too..
@Fimlys Oh I had totally forgotten guild efforts to level professions! Not only will there be races to be the top DK in your guild…that also goes for being “the guild chanter/JC/etc..”
Bah! I wanna test a Death Knight! in like 10 days like “Project Lore”
